S. zeylanicum is a small tree that grows in coastal areas, including the Southern islands as well as secondary forest. This species was formerly known as Eugenia spicata. It is a common cultivated roadside tree and is known for profuse flowering and fruiting which can make the tree look almost snow covered. After fruiting fresh leaves are produced and the tree takes on a light green colour. These colour changes due to flowering, fruiting and leafing up make this a very attractive and popular road side tree that can be seen all over Singapore. |
