Nutrition of the Wolf is a very timely book. It is written by Dr. Michael Allen, who is a vet and nutritionist. I had read his book, “Wolves,” a few years back, and liked it, but this one is much better. He addresses many issues that are important to us as humans, and provides many recipes for good meals. The primary theme of the book is that the diet of wolves has changed somewhat from the time they were first hunted and killed, to the present day. They have become experts at gathering natural food and enjoying it in great taste. We, too, have entered into an era of nutrient avoidance and overcooking of foods. We seem not to realize that the problem lies with both of us.
It is interesting to consider that we, too, are in a perfect state of being nutritional. The problems arise when humans try to duplicate what nature has created, without paying attention to the nutritional needs of their bodies. Nature provides all of us with fiber, fats, carbohydrates, and proteins, in abundance. In fact, the only thing we need to pay attention to is what we put into our mouths.
Many of these nutrients are in season in the wild, where the wolf lives and feeds. Everything they eat is natural, and there is very little that could be called processed or junk food. As long as everything is well-balanced, and eaten in moderate portions, the health of your wolf is well taken care of. This is the ideal situation, because natural nutrition is excellent for maintaining a wolf’s health.
This is true for many other animals as well.
